MCGRATH YOUTH COMMUNITY GARDEN: (Scroll down for events and pictures)
This Spring (2011) is our 3rd year of working with this community project. Excess veggies went to sales at the area Farmers' Markets, helping to make this garden somewhat self-sustainable, and to some area elderly residents.

Lacking  volunteers and funding this season, with having to move the community garden from its original site, along with the need for down-sizing, this year the elderly and low-income will be offered their own hay-bale garden container. This will provide them with their own choice of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers - without the need for weeding and without taking up growing space that we no longer have available to us.

Work in the garden was accomplished by MACO and neighborhood volunteers , along with the support of generous business donations that helped make this a truly successful community endeavor: Steele's Nursery, Dickie's 1865 Garden Center, The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibway.  The McGrath Fire Department Chief, Bob Dresser, was especially helpful with watering the garden during our very hot, dry growing season last year. Make a positive difference in your community, your family and yourself by volunteering in a project that impacts so many families in such positive and healthy ways.                                                                                                                                                                                                                              This year, we're planning on regularly-scheduled weekend thrift/craft sales to coincide with the Farmers' Market and non-profit area organizations throughout the summer months at 100 6th Street in McGrath. We hope to see you there!!
